When time blocking helps
A due date says which day; a time block says which hours. Putting a task in a slot on the calendar turns a vague intention into a commitment, and it shows you early when the day is overfull.
A worked example
You have three tasks due today: write a report (about 90 minutes), answer emails (30 minutes) and prepare slides (60 minutes). Open the calendar, give the report the 9:00 to 10:30 slot while you are fresh, put emails after lunch and slides in the afternoon. If the report overruns, press and drag the block to adjust the length.
Planning tips
- Estimate, then add a quarter. Tasks usually take longer than you expect.
- Leave a gap. A free hour absorbs surprises.
- Match the task to your energy. Do demanding work when you focus best.
- Pair blocks with a Pomodoro. A timer helps you stay on one task.

Premium note
Calendar and time blocking are Premium features. The Free plan still supports due dates and the Today and Upcoming views.
Common mistakes
- Blocking every minute of the day. Plans need room to bend.
- Moving the same task day after day without asking whether it is still worth doing.
